Atopic dermatitis. Cosmetics and treatment

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and troublesome disease. It is caused by environmental pollution, genetic conditions and disorders of the immune system. Despite the acute course of AD, you can function normally. All you need to do is take care of your skin and follow a few beauty rules.

What are the symptoms of AD?

Atopic dermatitis is often accompanied by pruritus and the presence of Staphylococcus aureus (also known as golden staph) on the surface of the skin. There are three types of AD depending on the patient’s age. When it comes to infants, it may result in blemishes, and axillary, inguinal and cervical lymph nodes may be enlarged. Children under five years, have skin lesions that are located on the elbows and popliteal bends, and on the epidermis. Also, clots and scabs may appear. People between 6 and 20 years of age usually have clots, erosions, dry or wet scabs. These changes appear on the back of the hands, feet and on the face.

Treatment of cutaneous lesions in AD

The treatment method should be selected individually for the patient. The therapy takes into account the accompanying diseases, the extent of skin lesions and allergies. Based on the sensitization, appropriate drugs are selected and desensitization is performed. The treatment consists of administering antihistamines together with relanium or hydroxyzine. It often happens that after reducing the dose, the symptoms return. However, for more serious skin lesions, it is necessary to start using antibiotics.

External treatment of skin lesions

Treatment of skin lesions in atopic dermatitis involves rebuilding the protective hydro-lipid barrier. With the development of the disease, the level of ceramides (a natural moisturizing factor) decreases. External treatment is primarily based on the use of creams or ointments with a soothing effect. During the therapy, it is also recommended to moisten the skin with emollients or urea immediately after bathing. Emollients can be used up to two or three times a day. In autumn and winter skin changes should be treated with artificial light. It turns out that under the influence of sunlight the symptoms of AZS disappear. It is important to avoid products with detergents, reduce stressful situations, stay in rooms where there is no air conditioning or strong heating. Even sweating promotes the formation of pimples. Therefore, it is recommended to wear breathable cotton clothing.
